Strut-and-tie modelling is taught in every reinforced-concrete course that reaches D-regions — deep beams, corbels, pile caps, pier caps, anchorage zones — and it is exactly where a sketch on the board stops being enough. AStrutTie runs in a browser, so a lecture hall or a computer lab needs no installation, no license server, and no administrator.
Professors and students get AStrutTie Pro free for 12 months, renewable while you are teaching or studying.
What the academic licence includes
Pro, in full
Every template including the 3D strut-and-tie, prestressed and grid-girder families, unlimited nodes, all export (report, .stm, DXF) and the higher AI-assist allowance. Nothing is held back for the classroom.
Four design codes
ACI 318, AASHTO LRFD, Eurocode 2 and KDS — switch code on the same model and compare what changes. Every factor used is printed in the calculation report.
Nothing to install
Windows, macOS or Linux; a lab machine, a laptop or a student's own computer. Students keep working at home on the same account.
Reports students can submit
The calculation report shows the model, the truss forces, and every code check with its clause reference — readable as coursework, and as a worked answer key.
Who is eligible

- An institutional email address (.edu, .ac.*, or your university's own domain) is required — it is how we verify eligibility
- Non-commercial use only. Consulting, paid design work and industry projects need a commercial licence.

Send one email from your academic address. There is no form to fill in and no card to enter.

We reply within two business days with the account set up. If your institution does not use an .edu or .ac.* domain, send it anyway and say which university it is — we check by hand.
Teaching material you can use today
Our worked examples are complete strut-and-tie designs — problem, model, analysis, and the code checks written out step by step with clause references. They are published on this site and free to use in a lecture or assignment.

- What happens after 12 months?
- Nothing is charged automatically. Write to us before or after it lapses and we renew it for as long as you are teaching or studying.
- Can I use it for my thesis?
- Yes. Degree work, including a thesis or dissertation, is covered. Please cite the software and its version in your methods section.
- Can a whole class get accounts?
- Yes. A member of faculty can request accounts for a course — tell us the course, the term and roughly how many students, and we set them up together.
- Is the free academic version limited compared with the paid one?
- No. It is the Pro edition. The only limits are the licence terms above: non-commercial use, and an academic email.
- What if I graduate or leave the university?
- The academic licence ends with your academic role. You can keep using the always-free browser tier, or move to a commercial subscription.
